Grosset and Dunlap, 1961. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Graham Kaye (illustrator).

For the uninitiated (or those MUCH younger than myself) Tom Swift Jr. is the central character in a series of 33 Young Adult science / adventure novels, published from 1954 to 1971, following in the tradition of the earlier Tom Swift ("Senior") novels, published from 1910-1941, who appears and is identified in these novels as his father. The series was entitled The New Tom Swift Jr. Adventures, and follows the adventures of a YA inventor of many cool high tech gadgets (at least as imagined for the period) The series was published by the famous Stratemeyer Syndicate, who created many YA titles of the time, including the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. The Tom Swift books were attributed to the pseudonymous Victor Appleton II, who was actually a stable of different writers, penning various installments of the series (most notably James Duncan Lawrence).

This copy of "The Visitor From Planet X" being offered for sale is a hardcover edition, with beautiful painted pictoral covers, published by Grosset and Dunlap. The book has a yellow spine and back, and depicts a color scene from the story on the clothbound board covers (see photos). It is a later reprint (lists to #27 of the series on the back) in VG- condition. The binding is tight and pages inside are clean. The cover has some creases noted, if fingers are run over it, but the pictoral cover is well preserved with little wear or scuffing. Some edgewear is noted on both the top and bottom of the cover. The spine is faded from its original golden / yellow colour, but is also extremely well preserved. The back exhibits the original colour of the book and is clean and bright.

A possible addition to your collection, until a finer copy appears, or to simply pull out for a nostalgic read, for the young at heart!.
